I've Been Missing

I've been missing in blogland and there's a reason besides the obvious requirements of a new puppy and life in general. I'm new to this blogging thing and when I jumped in I blithely assumed after some research that I was all set to blog away as long as I had an internet connection and something to say. It turns out that that may not be so.

You may notice that there are no pictures with this post and that's the bump in the road that has me stumped right now. This post by Connie at Freemotion by the River got me thinking and then gave me a scare!  I have no picture storage left according to Picasaweb!  What does this mean for you and me and this blog? It means I won't be able to post any pictures until I figure this out and a blog without pictures is nothing at all in my opinion. I'm so naive that I just thought I could blog and stuff without any special skills - now I have to take a crash course in Photoshop or some such - the Blogging for Dummies book never mentioned this AT ALL!

Until next time,

  1. I see you work from blogspot. When you are writing a post there is an icon at the top that looks like a picture in a frame. Click on that and it will bring up a box that allows you to upload photos right from your pictures on your computer. Once it has uploaded you can insert it in your post. Hope this helps.

    1. Yes, you can upload from your computer, but blogger then puts them from your blog automatically into picasa. I haven't reached my picasa limit yet, but it's only a matter of time before I do, so this post is a good reminder that I need to plan ahead!

    2. Terry,

That's what I have been doing and in 9 month I have run out of space :( since the pics are then stored in Picasa web albums. I didn't realize that I have to down size the pics before putting them on the blog, I thought they were already being down sized. Now I have to figure out how to do that and then use the blogger devise, I think.

Start now before it smacks you like it did me, cuz now I feel a little stymied and intimidated.

    4. Kristi,
I tried deleting some of the photos off the Picasa album to make more space but that also deleted them off the blog :( leaving holes in back posts. I figured I could then resize photos before uploading them to conserve space, but I REALLY don't like those missing pictures in posts from the past. I think that the only real solution will be to purchase more space and start the down size option from now on. Wish I had known about this to begin with - A little corner of research I missed.

  2. That happened to me, too! I did some reading about Picasa's web storage limits and policies and figured out as long as you crop your picture so the biggest dimension is 800 pixels, Picasa doesn't count it toward your limit. You only have to delete a few pictures from your Picasa blog album before you can start uploading more that are smaller! Email me if you have questions :)
You also don't need Photoshop to crop... Sometimes I use Photoshop since you can crop multiple images at once, but sometimes I just use PicMonkey instead!

    1. Heidi,

Thanks for the info. How do I delete from the Picasa album, can I just choose and delete or is it more complicated and I have photoshop and I have heard of PicMonkey which seems pretty user friendly but it adds a layer of stuff to do before I can post which makes it seem harder somehow and I'm daunted.

    1. Stevie,
I looked into Wordpress but it just seemed too complicated to get started to my poor brain. Funny how we each have different ways of precessing information. Look into this issue tho cuz I'm sure Wordpress also has a data limit too, as I've found out nothing in life is really free!

  4. Patrica--you can upload Picasa program and use that for your photo cropping, editing, and resizing. It is a free program from Google. Before I upload my photos to my blog, I export them to a file I named Websize, after having resized them smaller (generally less than 500 pixels) and watermarked them, all from the File menu in Picasa. I learned how to do this on Lazy Gal Quilting's blog. Anyway, I have been blogging for nearly four years and have only used 43 MB (4.26% of my 1024 MB space). You can also pay $5-10 to upgrade your storage space on Picasa web albums. At the bottom of the Web Album page where it shows you how much storage you have used, there is a link called Upgrade Storage. I don't know if deleting an album does anything once you have reached your limit.

    1. Annie, I've been using Picassa for editing and cropping but I can't figure out how to resize can you give me a hint? It's too late now, I found out if I delete photos from the album they disappear from the blog - bummer :( but I can buy more storage and start from now. Thanks for the help.
