Design Wall Monday/BOM

I am so behind on my BOM. Because we were traveling I missed picking up the BOM at Shared Stitches my LQS in April and so if I don't get myself over there within the next week, finish the block and pick up the next one I will be two behind. I did manage to get number three done and I really like this one. What do you think?

I'm also working on a top secret project. Have I mentioned a new grand baby is due in the summer?

Snow on the Dogwoods

There is a saying that you hear a lot in our small mountain town, "It's not spring until there's snow on the dogwoods!" Meaning spring has not officially started until there has been snowfall on the dogwood blossoms. Well, I think we can say without fear of contradiction that spring has come to this section of the hills!

Blossoms start out this lovely, soft lime green and whiten as they age

Snow has fallen and quickly melted and we are left with the beautiful dogwood blooms. I love these trees so much. We have 18 dogwoods on our three acre property alone and many, many more as we look out across the forest. It's a glorious sight especially in the evening as they glow ghostly pale just before the last light fades away.

A sure sign that summer will be here soon as spring is fleeting on Dogwood Lane.

Visiting My Quilts

While I was in the south land I snuck around my kid's houses and took pictures of the quilts I could find which I've given them over the years. Many of them I don't have pictures of or I can't find on this hard drive.

Chris & Jody's wedding quilt. There are butterflies embroidered in the center of the stars and butterflies in the quilting. Made this for them in 2008, used on their bed every day.

Owen's baby quilt

A close-up of some of the kanji embroidery and the quilting which includes bamboo and cheery blossoms
It makes me happy  to see the quilts I make being used. I try to make each of my projects as beautiful as possible but I'm not creating museum pieces. I want the quilts I make to be used and loved. The baby quilts should be dragged around and thrown in the wash. Go ahead, I'll make you another one!

On to San Diego

Our youngest son and his wife live in San Diego so our next stop was south and a four day visit with them. They needed some home improvement help and Chris came equipped with tool belt and I brought paint brushes. The four of us went to work framing their new windows. We got the whole house done in two days, what a crew. We are not for hire! After the work episode it was time for play.

Baby furniture shopping and picking out nursery colors followed by dinner at the Blue Water Grill recommended by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives and I have to say the fresh fish was awesome. Go there you won't be disappointed. Just don't expect decor, it really is a dive.

Visions Art Museum Contemporary Quilts & Textiles

 We made a stop here
The family thought I was dragging them to an ordinary quilt show and they were blown away by the art quilts on display, particularly the "Art Meets Science" installation currently showing. Wow! Click on the link and see what I mean. No pictures allowed inside but I bought the catalog so I could relive the day.

Posing at the zoo. There is a baby bump in this photo but you can hardly tell.
The next day was spent at the San Diego Zoo (I did take a ton of pictures at the zoo but I won't bore you with them) then home again to grill burgers and watch the last two episodes of Justified on the DVR. What am I going to do with my Tuesday nights now? Start on the Netflix DVDs of season 2 of Doc Martin, but I digress. Wonderful to spend time with our kids. We'll be back the end of May for Claire's first birthday and the baby shower.
